And Then She Will Come To You
Every Good Quest Has a Sacrifice is the tenth episode of Season 1 of The Almighty Johnsons
The time has finally come for Axl Johnson and his brothers to man up and be the Gods they truly are
We begin at the hospital where Axl is learning that Zeb may have been blinded for life; whilst Ty is breaking the news to Dawn that they can never be together. It is not a good day to be a God. But when Axl gets home, with Gaia, as she tends his wounds, everything that has been simmering away between them finally comes to fruition and they end up in bed together.
In the wake of this, Axl announces to his family that he is in love with Gaia, so the wedding to Eva/Frigg is off. Anders, in particular, does not take this news well; but Mike urges Axl to slow down, think about things before doing anything rash – either way. But the pressure on Axl continues, in the form of Zeb, who thinks that if Axl gets married, gets his powers, then he will be able to give him his sight back. He even tries to get Axl to try and heal him in a Jesus-like manner by touching his eyes, but it doesn't work.
As the boys are preparing for the Gudegilde, a pre-wedding God ceremony, Mike too joins the list of Gods having a bad day when Valerie announces that: (a) she is pregnant; (b) to Rob; and (c) that she still loves Rob. Furious, Mike heads off. Axl goes off to the party, promising Gaia that he will sort things out with Eva, so that they can be together.
At the Gudegilde, where all the Gods and Goddesses are finally together – including Agnetha, whom none of the guys have ever seen and who intrigues Anders no end. A bitter Ty begs Axl to turn him into a mortal when he has his powers. Anders and Michele continue to flirt while Mike drowns his sorrows in alcohol.
When Eva enters the room, Ty feels something when he looks at her. Later Ty and Eva get into a huge fight over her apparent love for Axl, and she brandishes a knife at him. At least this gives Axl an excuse to take her aside and break the news about the wedding being off. Olaf and Ingrid notice the food near where Ty and Eva were arguing has all rotted.
Things take an unexpected turn for the worse when, after Axl announces the cancelation of the wedding to the gathering, Colin steps forward with an announcement of his own: in that case, he says, Mike will die within two weeks. What Agnetha neglected to mention in her translation of the document were any clauses about what punishment would ensue should the wedding fail to take place. This completes a great day for Mike.
Olaf, however, sees a possible way out, in that after he and Ingrid have realised that Eva is not, in fact, Frigg – but is Hel, the Goddess of the Underworld. Colin rejects this as a loophole, as the contract doesn’t care which God and which Goddess are getting married: no joining of the families means Mike dies. And with divorce being no option for Gods and Goddesses, there seems to be no other way. And as Mike prepares himself to be the sacrifice, Axl and Gaia fall apart – because he did not annul the engagement like he promised.
Anders breaks off his fling with Michele to her surprise. Ty confronts Dawn, who is still angry over his mixed messages, and clarifies to her that he is with someone else and that he is sorry. Mike is preparing to leave his home, and gets into an argument with Valerie and Rob over their affair, and finally punches Rob. Axl visits Zeb in the hospital, who can now see; apparently having healed his eyesight after all.
Ty calls the family together to confront Colin. He states that the contract didn't specify which God had to marry Eva, and he has decided to accept it in order to save Mike and allow Axl to continue his quest. He later explains to the others that he is following his Godly destiny to be with Hel, and ‘wooed’ Eva before they agreed to be married, even though they will clearly be the death of each other. Axl tries to make things right with Gaia, but it is too late – she has decided to move out and live with Jacob since Axl doesn't seem to care.
The ceremony takes places, and as Ty and Eva head off, Mike decides to focus on helping Axl find the real Frigg, having loosened up since learning of Valerie's affair and his reknewed life. And, in this way, the Quest of the Johnson boys is no closer to being resolved.
Meanwhile, Anders has met with Agnetha, learning that she has been managing some of the companies he does business with. He thinks that the two of them can do much for each other. Though he thinks she's worried that he's too young for her, her worry is actually the fact that she's his mother!
